How did this come to our attention?

The struggles of the Romani people have been documented for centuries, but they were highlighted more recently through reports from the United Nations and other human rights organizations. A 2015 UN Special Rapporteur report on minority issues brought global attention to the widespread discrimination of the Romani people face in the Americas, these injustices affect Romani families in today’s modern world. The persistence of antigypsyism, a specific form of racism targeting Roma continues and must be stopped. Action and advocacy are urgently needed that is our number one goal.

How do you decide where to focus your efforts?

We prioritize communities where Romani individuals face the highest levels of discrimination and lack access to education, resources, and advocacy. A human rights violation occurs when the actions of a state or non-state actor abuse, ignore, or deny the fundamental human rights of individuals. These rights are outlined in documents such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and other international treaties. Violations can be perpetrated by governments, but also by corporations, groups, and individuals.

What’s our goal?

Our goal is to address the challenges Romani people face by promoting education, advocacy, leadership, and economic opportunity. We work to integrate Romani history, culture, and language into schools, empower Roma individuals to take on leadership roles, and correct historical imbalances by creating pathways for socially and economically disadvantaged communities to compete more effectively in the marketplace. By expanding access to contracts, funding, mentorship, and visibility, we strive to build a more inclusive society where Romani voices are heard, their culture is respected, and their rights are fully recognized.
